"It strikes me as somewhat interesting, on further thought, how the Internet has become a place where so many literary sites mimic the magazine/journal format of print media. To be sure, many of us have added real audio, unique navigational features, animated logos, whatbyte, but how many of us have taken a fresh look at the workings of the Internet itself, or the way hypertext can link image and language?"--Jennifer Ley, Editor of Heelstone

Although Heelstone.com is actually considered an ezine, it is really not unlike established net.art sites such as Rhizome.org Art Base or Beyond Interface. It features a curated group of audio/visual works of poetry often linked by graphic interfaces in hypertextual narrative style. An example of which is Tarot Poems; A Random Reading (Mike Timonin and Cindy Duhe). The user clicks on a moving graphic that resembles a shuffling deck and it links to a poem associated with a picture. Another click starts the random shuffling process over again. This is really a hypertext interface for a series of related poems. Many other pieces are poems that have a number of hypertext links within the text that opens another poem associated with the link word, similar to hypertextual narrative. Almost all have graphics and many make use of other A/V elements. Over time, it is inevitable that these poets will begin to experiment more and more with the electronic medium and begin to incorporate other commercial web development techniques similar to established works of net.art.
