Metacreatures [Balls and Wires]

Metacreatures is a series of large-scale 3D printed sculptures consisting of essential ball and wire forms. These forms, originally produced by captured gestures in virtual reality, are then further refined using traditional modeling techniques. Just as each brush stroke of a painting is a captured gesture of an artist, these forms capture artist gesture in three dimensions. Virtual reality and digital fabrication make this possible. The forms invoke anthropomorphic imagination, pareidolia, as well as perceived attitude and posture, yet ultimately they are just balls and wires. Everything else is brought in by the observer. These forms are both a study on the minimum needed to activate imagination and affinity, as well as the relationship between traces of gesture and artist aura captured in objects.
