Consciousness has an integral relationship with memory, as an unrecorded observation ceases to exist. The present is a moment that is infinitely brief-------consciousness depends upon memory to give time some width, identity some continuity, and self-reflection some observations to consider. Currently, human memory is being aided by an abundance of video recordings, creating memories of memories and correcting our most certain recollections. These recordings are not the same as our true memories as they are only sight and sound; a limited trace. Yet they act as a kind of radar ping into pieces of memory, and thus pieces of consciousness. These pings in turn help shape consciousness in a feedback loop mixed in with memories of observations.
